Steneby- college of craft and design.

"This year, BFA students from the Furniture Design focus on the project "Grow". A project about the green in our environment where chlorophyll, oxygen and plants,

a prerequisite for human life, in a playful and unexpected finds its way into people's homes.

The project has been supervised by the department's teacher Mr James and Asa Nystrom and this year's curator and exhibition designer was Peter Andersson."

The stackable chair and armchair Knut originates from a construction concept - one wooden hub joining together frames, legs and back posts. The hub has been the central focus on which the design has been based and which gave the chair its characteristic expression.

It can clearly be seen how this chair is an evolution of a previous project for NC, the Tilt chair, which has a similar construction, or the design of the Rialto chair.

Knut is a carefully thought out piece of furniture with a consistent and constructive expression. With the user in focus, it stands up to the challenge of satisfying the uncompromising requirements on durability, function and ergonomics. Given its qualities and its expression, the chair is useful in many kinds of environments - in the café or restaurant, in the lecture hall or around a conference table. New this year: The upholstered back and acoustic panel makes the chair complete.

The stool has in its simplicity and pure function always been my favorite piece of furniture. We have in this project regarded the stool more of a tool than a piece of furniture. Used for what ever purpose you need at the time.

A pedestal, a seat, a table.....

We´ve kind of fallen in love with this little therapeutic project ourselves...

Surface is a project discovering the tension between surfaces and structures – dissolving (or reconstructing) the idea, construction and typology of minimalism.

“Surface” is a continuation of the project “Set piece” and was set up as an installation at Eskilstuna Art Museumas a part of a solo exhibition in 2008.

Children might outgrow most things at the speed of light, but not the BRIO Sleep. This bed is designed to fit every stage of your child’s first 5–6 years of development

while always providing a safe and comfortable sleeping environment. With removable sides, the cot can transform into a relaxing day bed, and later evolve into a stylish junior bed. Despite this versatility, the bed’s safety, comfort and style is never compromised. With a base that is adjustable to three heights, you can always comfortably lift your child in and out of the cot. With the changing needs of your child this is a multifunctional cot with a life of it’s own.

On first inspection, Set Piece appears like a perfectly functional easy chair – impeccably handcrafted in Tarnsjo leather. But look a little further and its true excitement and originality is revealed. On the one hand, “Set Piece” is minimalism taken to an ironic extreme; on the other, it is a study in construction, a revelation of what lies behind the polished exterior – reminiscent of a glimpse in the wings of a theatre or a movie set. Which is more beautiful?

Rowdy is family of upholstered blocks that can be combined in to easy chairs, benches and stools- creating a seating landscape. The concept was originally inspired by the work and aestetics of the french film maker Michel Gondry. Rowdy is simplified to an extreme and almost unsophisticated but yet with a strong expression. The simple structure minimalize use of material and makes it uncomplicated to produce and transport- and of course affordable. The character and the design of the chair, as well as the concept in itself, is well described through the product name;  Rowdy means:

row·dy (rou’dç)

n.   pl. row·dies

A rough, disorderly person.

adj.   row·di·er, row·di·est

Disorderly; rough: rowdy teenagers; a rowdy beer party

Tilt is a chair challenging the rule of not tilting chairs while you sit. But almost everyone does it, so why not make a chair that can endure it? The ordinary chair will sooner or later break.

Tilt was awarded the prestigious "Piece of furniture of the year" (Årets möbel) at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2006 by Sköna Hem design magazine. Since then it has been part of several exhibitions and gained a lot of appreciation throughout the world. It seems like the disobediant behavior is global.

The stackable Rialto further develops the heritage from Swedish furniture history with its roots in the "Peoples House" and other community centers.

The basic chair Rialto has a classic, but his own expression, high functionality and robust design. Rialto is built to withstand the wear and chairs are subjected to year after year, both of the eye and body.

Almost every window in any street in Scandinavia have one thing in common during the dark and long december nights- the electric christmas chandelier. An old tradition which has resulted in an iconic product that could be found in numerous versions. All with the common aim to create Christmas ambience during the otherwise dark season.

In the design of The great escape we tried to bring on a new take but at the same time relate to its tradition.

Since the chandelier is intended as window decoration we have connected the shape to its placement. The result is a strict, elegant and poetic in its design but at second glance with a playful approach. Christmas can sometimes become so overwhelming that you just want to break free and escape from it all...

The café chair Rialto has its origin in a field trip to Venice. The experience of the angled, edgy shape of the famous Rialto bridge inspired Peter Andersson to create the iconic chair.

The chair with it´s typical “bag-hanger”, has nowadays become a well known acquaintance in scandinavian restaurants and cafés.
